On My Way To a Fab Closet, Part I

For a stylephile, closets are a very personal thing. And so, I am about to bare my soul to you, my friends. In case you didn't hear, I moved about a month ago. I upgraded from a studio to a one bedroom — yay! Annabelle and I are very happy in our spacious new digs. I have to admit one of the things that sold me on this place was the two closets. My one before wasn't too bad, but I have dreamed of a personalized closet for years and knew the time had come.

I quickly called California Closets because the existing white wire racks and configurations were not working for my Fab things. My clothes were not fitting well (I don't have that much stuff, I swear) and it was just a bad use of space. I thought it would be fun to share my experience with you. The only other thing I was this happy about investing in was my little furry roomie so here's the scoop.

To keep on reading about my experience and to see more scary before pictures, read more

There are two closets. One in the hallway, intended for coats, linens, travel gear and the like. This one is OK, do-able. Simple. Then there's the "mistress" (as California Closets calls it) closet, which spans the whole wall across from my bed and has mirrored sliding doors — yes! This is obviously the key closet in which my livelihood will live. Sadly, clothes were smushed and shoes were boxed while I had to get the project done. If I've been moody the past couple weeks, now you know why. But really, it's a big undertaking and expense I'm willing to make for my truest love: fashion.

The hard part is over. Stay tuned as I find my way to a Fab closet!

I have two HUGE walk in closets right now but my husband is getting transferred so we'll be moving in about 3-4 months. Hopefully wherever we relocate too I'll have lots of space! Can't wait to see the whole thing.

Do you own the place or are you investing in a california closet for a rental?

I can't wait to see the results & hear how California Closets does. I have an oddly shaped walk in closet & I was just talking to my husband about calling them. He thinks we should just do it on our own! Maybe Fab's end results will help me change his mind.

And my mom's say that I have a lot of clothes...

I'm crazy for a mirrored sliding doors closet!! Mine is an old, dark brown, too-big-for-my-bedroom-and-too-small-for-my-stuff wardrobe.

My grandma had a huge closet like that where she kept all of her (gulp) square dancing dresses, which are massive if anyone has seen them. Anyway, a trip to the Container Store did wonders for her with shelving and boxes...I don't know if that was California Closet or not...but it turned out AMAZING!! Good luck!

You girls are so funny! Yes, the brown thing is the blanket on my bed - it's an optical illusion I suppose. Eye-wink I got my purple duvet at Macy's two years ago, I couldn't find it online. But Macy's has a great bedding department, and frequent sales. Stay tuned! xo

How do you sleep across from a mirror? Ha ha I wish I could, but it scares me! Waking up in the middle of the night and thinking someone is in the room but it's you! Sorry, tangent....

I moved into a house in Dec. and was really lucky with my closet. It is a large walk in and has two wood shelves on perpendicular walls. It also has two long wood bars under that allow my clothes to slide smoothly along the length. I hated those wire racks that existed in my apartment. They were slotted so the clothes always looked bunched. Can't wait to see it finished.

Oh my God... is that a special little staircase for Annabelle to get up on your bed?? That is too cute!!

That's a great room, a really good size. Before we moved into our new house my boyfriend and I measured (ok, me, it was me... I did it) the room wrong and ordered a king size bed. Now the bed takes up pretty much the whole room so we've no room for a dressing table. We do have a nice big Ikea Pax sliding door closet, it's just a bummer that I have to share it with him Sticking out tongue

It's not that hard to get your closet to look nice and organized. All you have to do is to get your stuff classified by size or color. It may sound a little freaky to have your things like that but believe me, it looks a lot better.
