Trend Alert: Shoulder Love

Take a cue from these shining stars and show some shoulder love. I prefer Anne's simple, angular frock, but feel free to make a bold statement a la Charlize in decadent Giambattisa Valli or get sweet like Sienna's Dior. The trick to shoulder love is making sure the top portion fits you to perfection — we don't want you looking like a burly football player. Keep the rest sleek and best to pull your hair back so the shoulders can steal the show.

A little off topic, but I think the Giambattisa Valli on Charlize Theron looks ten times better on Sarah Jessica Parker on the cover of the July issue of Marie Claire. Charlize looks too proper/put together with her hair up and the dark lips, and the poufy part of the dress looks like a feather boa falling off her neck. I think the dress looks so much more natural on SJP, and I like her hair down + the different makeup.

I love this look, as long as it's not too overboard, and I don't care for the feathers, but the poofy sleeves look nice.

I don't care for this look, but if i had to choose it would be Anne Hathaway's look.

I'm not feeling Anne's look. It reminds of of overly shoulder padded items that were very popular in the 80s. Although I like some of the trends from that period, this is not one of them. I do like the others though...

I have to be careful with these b/c I have very broad shoulders.
The last McQueen dress is sharp.

I think I would actually wear the Mcqueen dress. I wouldn't wear anything that looks like the shoulder look from the 80s (even though big shoulders are really from the 40s). It's not a look I'm interested in since I like having small shoulders. I do like small puff sleeves though.

I love the shoulder detail - particularly the poofy sleeve. I do not care for the style of Anne's dress. It's too much of a nod to the 80's shoulder pad look. That trend should NOT circle back.

I really like the natural shape of shoulders.. shoulder pads are just bizarre to me.

I like the b&w Tracy Reese dress, everything else feels tired. Big shoulders should *not* come back.

i love little accents on the shoulders! plus there's a difference btwn huge 80s style shoulder pads and a structured, tailored look. hello - balenciaga! fab. my problem is, while i have nice toned shoulders, they are also quite wide so i have to be careful how to pull off this look. maybe a oneshouldered deal would be best (like the ASOS dress)? anyone else have this same problem?
