Being petite can make finding the perfect swimsuit quite a challenge. Don't get me wrong, having a petite figure can be lots of fun! Smaller bodies can get away with loud prints and fun cuts. Avoid wearing solid colors and stay away from too much fabric.

To learn what kind of suits are best for a small bust, waist, or short legs, and to see my swimsuits picks for petites, read more

  • Small Bust: Colorful patterns, stripes, and ruffles can add an extra boost to your chest area. If you'd prefer a bigger lift, look to padded bikini or bandeau tops and avoid wearing too much fabric on top.
  • Small Waist: Add some curves to your figure by drawing attention to your waist. Banded and embellished bottoms will add extra volume to your waist creating an hourglass figure. Avoid wearing solid colors and stripes.
  • Short Legs: Look for high cut swimsuits, such as the monokini, that will elongate the legs. Avoid boy shorts or embellishments that will cause attention to the lower half of the body.

Thank you Fabsugar for taking into mind those of us who are "petite". Usually all tips on fining swimsuits go out to those who are "plus" sized. People don't realize it's hard for petite girls too! ♥

I love being petite! And I definitely think being small makes it easier to get away with a greater variety of styles, especially when it comes to swimsuits.

I love the Billabong pink and purple plaid bikini...the Juicy ruffled one is pretty cute too.

    " . . . for a small bust, waist, or short legs . . . "

Uh, that's not the definition for petite.

Petite is about PROPORTION. We don't have small busts, waists, or short legs. It's not about size. For instance, we may be able to wear regular-size pants, but the crotch would be too low. And that's NOT due to short legs. It's because our proportion is different, and so regular-size do not fit properly on us.

So with petite clothing, all the proportions are smaller, and it's not about length or size.

I had to clear this up.

Yep, I'm 5'0" but my bust isn't small and my waist (though technically small) has seen better days after two pregnancies. My legs are certainly short.

I wouldn't be caught dead in a bikini if you paid me. Why is it that the pat answer for petites is always a bikini???

(However, a tankini can often work... because the top will go down long enough to cover everything and appear like a one piece)
