Vintage Rolex Watch Via J.Crew: Love It or Hate It?

There's been lots of love for macho watches lately. I'll pass, but I love the look on others. DearSugar, quite the watch aficionado, pointed this Vintage Rolex® 14k gold "shell" Oyster Perpetual on riveted Oyster bracelet, circa 1960s ($5,200) out to me. It appears J.Crew is exclusively featuring vintage Rolex watches. It compliments J.Crew's cool, yuppy vibe, but I still refuse to spend that much on a timepiece. Thoughts?

Am I the only one who hates it?

I see I'm only the second person to hate it. I associate gold watches with tacky men who wants to look wealthy, because that was all the rage around here in the late 80s - early 90s.

It's pretty and polished looking but I'm not a fan of gold.

The only watch I'd ever spend that much on is a Breitling for my husband. My mom has a Rolex and I'm just not impressed with it. Of course, I'm not much of a watch person; I only own a Bvlgari my husband bought me and a Guess? bracelet watch.

My husband wears a Rolex Oyster, but I'm not into the Rolex brand at all. I neither love nor hate it. Ok, I like the color of the band.

It's not my style and I hardly ever wear a watch, but it's nice.

Unimpressed. The only thing I thing when I see someone with a Rolex is "Wow, you spend thousands of dollars on a tacky watch"...I could see dropping a few hundred on a high quality watch that will last a lifetime...but not several thousand for a status symbol.

I love it. I really want a black rolex. I have one now that has a pink face and it's a stainless steel.

    Too expensive.
You can get a Michael Kors watch for $200 that looks just like that.
    I have a silver one.
