Trend Alert: Mid-Calf Boots

Falling between booties and knee-high boots are mid-calf boots. This middle child used to get harped on for its in-between length and stodgy shape, but look out kids — there's a new boot in town!

The modern mid-calf boot is cut slightly wider around the top to provide much-needed leg room, not to mention making jean tucking a breeze. Take a look-see at Ugly Betty's Becki Newton. Zone in on her amazing Jeffrey Campbell boots; the laid-back style goes perfectly with her light brown dress. The grommet embellishment adds a nice touch to this simple ensemble. She's the perfect example of how a person of petite height — she's only five-foot-two — can pull this off. No fear.

I've always liked mid-calf boots. I guess it's because I have big calves and they're so much easier and comfortable to wear.

Um, this length of boot is famous for making legs look short and calves look huge. No thanks.

Not a big fan. They would probably make my very strangely proportioned body look even goofier.

i just bought a pair of frye mid-calf boots and i LOVE them to death. i am 5', but if you wear them with the right articles of clothing -- they really are not unflattering. of course, it is a little trickier to wear than say, my ankle boots which seemingly are always flattering, but tricky is fun.

fab -- why not post some more outfits that girls are rockin' wearing mid-calf boots?

Hmm I'm confused now. Does this kind of boots look good on big calves and short leg? RosaDilia and ranksubjugation seemed to contradict each other. But I will definitely check it out when I go to a shoe store Smiling.

it looks fine on people of any height as long as they have very thin legs. for the rest of us, i think it would look stumpy.

Those are cute, but I'd need some with a very high and skinny heel to make up for the length that they visually truncate.

I, like RosaDilla like these, because I have thick calves. I can't close knee-length boots, and ankle boots are less flattering on my legs for some reason.

I like them, but they're not my favorite length. I like taller ones.

i've been a fan of this height boot for a long time and actually have quite a few pairs already - but i don't have any that look like these so i might have to invest this season. i like how they don't feel as substantial as knee boots but they aren't as bare as ankle boots, and well they are flattering which is great for someone who's got a bit of anxiety about her legs. they hit you in a good place if they are fitted properly
