Fab Body Guide: Cropped Leggings Versus Long Leggings

I have something I need to get off my chest: Cropped leggings are generally not flattering. Sure, svelte girls can pull them off, but in most cases, they're better left untouched — or for yoga class. I came to this realization because, as you may have noticed, celebrities have been practically living in all types of leggings lately. Long, short, black, shiny, colored, holey — you name it, they've worn it. Take Christina Aguilera and Lauren Conrad: Christina is showing off a black cropped pair, while Lauren is wearing long liquid leggings.

To hear more, and to see a gallery of stars wearing flattering leggings, read more.

Anything that's cropped does just that: it cuts you off. As evidenced by Christina, cropped leggings stop the continuous flow of an outfit. Had she worn long leggings, our eye wouldn't have stopped at her calves and then proceeded to her feet. Adversely, in Lauren's case, her choice of long, almost pant-like leggings makes her appear longer and thinner; there's a harmonious flow from the top of her outfit to the bottom. A harmonious outfit is always the way to go, don't you agree?

I will admit I have a good share of leggins in my drawer BUT i only rock them when im running errands or in the house, I cant understand why people wear them out to events like that..on that note, I agree with u FAB, I think part of the reason the longer legging works is becus they look more like actual pants too

I own one pair of leggings and even those I bought begrudgingly. They actually hit in between Christina's cropped and Lauren's long. Its a length that I find most flattering. I only reason I even like them is because they are made out of sweater material and are super warm. They are perfect with a shorter dress or longer sweater when I am running errands or want to bum it at school

not only are xtina's leggings too short, but so is her top for the outfit.

i don't really have that big of a problem with cropped leggings.. i don't have any long ones though so i can't really say which one i prefer. generally i just prefer tights.

Love Lauren's leggings and top. I prefer long leggings since they elongate the leggs.

I think that short ones is good for the summer. Long ones look classier and they are warmer for the winter.

Hmm. I disagree. I think it depends more on shape. If you have wide hips, long leggings (and the resulting emphasis on your ankles/feet) can be more unflattering than capris.

The only leggings I own are thermal jobbies for wearing when I'm out in the EVIL cold. Otherwise, it's tights or nada. Sorry, leggings just do me NO favors!

Oh, I agree, Fab — cropped leggings are not so flattering. Generally, though, I just wear tights.

    I prefer wearing actual pants.

I like leggings with tall boots, but other then that I don't approve of the ever increasing frequency of them.

Cropped or not Christina does look better in hers for some reason.

I hate leggings, long or short - why not wear pants or tights? I do have kind of a guilty pleasure thing for "liquid leather"/"latex" leggings, when worn right...

Can we just get rid of them completely already? I've never worn them and I never will!

i used to do the more cropped version since i don't like long skinny things, but after getting a pair of liquid leggings the other day - i'm 100% converted. how could i not have been into these before?

Right on! Ankle leggings make your legs look longer and smoother. Skinny jeans sometimes work, but with the right outfit, leggings are more chic. Paired with heels, they REALLY lengthen the legs. As for pants lovers who like their wrinkles, you're 50 years ahead of your time.
