If you weren't a Fab devotee last year, get ready for our fun-filled Best of 2008 polls. We're going to present our favorites from the year, and it's up to you to choose the readers' favorite. We're kicking it off with a toughie. Talk about a hard decision. We racked our brains for the five most impressive designers of '08. These five come down to our personal preferences, your enthusiasm for them, and their accomplishments throughout the year.

(L-R: Marchesa, Givenchy, Dries Van Noten, Yves Saint Laurent, Alexander Wang)

Marchesa wowed us with every single gown worn on the red carpet this year — we have much love for co-designers Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig. Ricardo Tisci churned out beautifully goth, wonderfully tailored collections for Givenchy RTW and Givenchy Couture. Belgian-born Dries inspired and promoted color and prints in his eclectic ready-to-wear collections. The house of Yves Saint Laurent, led by Stefano Pilati, is in full force redefining menswear and sexiness — the late Yves would be proud. Lastly, Alexander Wang emerged as the new industry darling. He won CFDA's Fashion Fund and made looking cool cool again. It's down to five. Who gets your vote?

Voted for Marchesa because their gowns take my breath away. Although I def would have voted for Chanel if it was a choice - I am in love with every single item I've ever seen. Total class.

The only reason I voted Marchesa was because I love gowns. But, I would have also chosen Givenchy and YSL.

Another Marchesa vote...I've never seen a gown by them that I wouldn't ROCK, given the occasion and the figure for it!

I voted for Givenchy, but neither of my favourites are included in this list.

Hooray, I'm glad the majority agrees with me in this case. Marchesa is almost always flattering to the figure and gorgeous without being dull. Wang is definitely a close second. What a cleancut badass.

of the five, Wang is my favorite in general. but this year, Givenchy knocked my socks off with that leather and ruffles fall collection - best collection this year! I like Marni and Diane von Furstenburg this year too, and of course my favorite: Alexander McQueen and Zac Posen...

I like Marchesa but a)I don't own any Marchesa and b)even if I did, I wouldn't have any occasion to wear it. So I'll go with what I actually own and wear: Wang!

I agree with Lizlee, Givenchy surprised me too.

i have to say that this year marchesa has really come to be one of my favorites and i can't imagine not seeing some of the most AMAZING dresses every day! it's one of those things that you can really pick out in a line up what comes from the collection, and there are so few things that i don't like so i'm utterly thrilled and think that i've got my favorite right there!

It was a tough choice. Looove Marchesa. The gowns are just so beautiful and unique. Although Dries was a close second.
