The Beauty of White Eyeliner

If you looked beyond her mile-long eyelashes at the Emmys, you might have noticed that Tyra Banks had a little bit of silvery-white sparkle going on in the corners of her lids. I'm glad to see that white eyeliner is still in vogue, since the color really does make your eyes look brighter and more awake. The white-hot look was huge during spring Fashion Week in New York, showing up on runways for Fendi, Givency, and Louis Vuitton:

When used on the upper lid, the white attracts light and opens up the shape of your eye, whereas a black liner can make your eyes look smaller. You can also put white liner on the inside of your lower lid, inside the lashes. As with any makeup, be sure to choose the right shade: Stark whites can look a little bit scary, so opt for an off-white liner or try smudging more severe shades with a sponge or Q-tip for a softer look.

To apply, line the inner corner of the eye or your lower lashline with an eye pencil in shimmery white, cream, or silver and blend in the line. For extra brightening, use the same pencil to highlight the brow line.

Here are some of Fabsugar's favorite white eyeliners:

Shiseido The Makeup Eyeliner Pencil in White, $16, available here.

Estée Lauder Artist's Eye Pencil in White Writer, $18.50, available here.

Giorgio Armani Smooth Silk Eye Pencil in #0, $24, available here.

audrey, maybe she scares you because her lashes are a million miles long and yet don't even hit the bottom of her brow...remember the cartoon-version of The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe? She reminds of the evil queen in that pick...

I like it, but I'm sure it won't look good on me, because of the shade of my eyes. But Jesus does Tyra Banks looks like Casper

I have brown eyes so that white stuff doesn't complement my eyes at all. Tyra looks freaky and old in that picture I thought she was only 30-ish whats with the wrinkels around her eyes :/

Would it look okay on me? I have hazel eyes- green and brown- and I would do anything to make the green POP- so I usually wear brown eyeliner. But would white be complimentary?

I don't think it's meant to be complimentary to your eye color, it's basically so your eyes pop. Makes them look wider

I use my highlight eye shadow color in the same spot Tyra has her white liner. Sorta the same, like J said.

I love white eyeliner. I used to wear black eyeliner on the inside line of my under eye which can give you a smoky, smudged look but in the end you look like you're wearing so much make-up. Ever since I switched to white - in the same place and on the inner crease- I think I look a lot more fresh faced. If you pair this with some great mascara you get a really wide-eyed thing. I think it just takes a few days to get used to yourself wearing this and then you'll start to love it. Bonus- it doesn't run.

I disagree- wearing white eyeliner on the bottom makes your eyes look small. Top lid and inner corner is fine, but putting it on the bottom lid is too much. Try a blonde eyebrow pencil instead. It's much less frightening.
