The Look For Less: Vera Wang Charmeuse Shift Dress

I absolutely adore this Vera Wang Charmeuse Shift Dress. Made from lavender-gray silk, the simple but elegant dress looks extremely flattering, with its high neck, pleated bust, and empire waist. I also love the little details, like the bow on the belt and the appliqued flowers. The only thing I don't love is the price. The dress sells for a whopping $1,690 here.

Luckily, I've found a similar—albeit simpler dress—that gives you the same look for almost $1,500 less. To see what it is, read more

It's Anthropologie's NY Minute Dress, available here for $228. This sheath dress is also made from gray silk charmeuse with a pleated bust and a bow belt. But in this case, the skirt is made from cotton sweatshirt material, not silk. A great alternative for buyers on a budget. What do you guys think?

Very cute, I saw this dress on Anthro. and loved it then! $228 is still a bit much for me though, since I can't think of an upcoming occasion where I'll need a dress like this.

The Vera Wang is totally gorgeous, but I have lost respect for her since she is designing mattresses.

They're both very pretty! I really love the detail on the shoulder of Vera Wang's dress. The Anthropologie is a great twist on it!

I have that dress!! (The Anthropologie one obviously, not the Vera Wang) I got it at the end of the summer - end of August maybe. It's SO good. So comfy and I always get complimented on it.

clearly i must be extremely poor because $200+ is still way too much to justify for me... guess that's what you get for being a broke grad students...

I like it -- it's really elegant and simple. Like something Scarlett Johansson would wear.

They both are very pretty dresses, but other than maybe the material, I don't see the resemblance. Not trying to be nit-picky!

I'm on margaretha's boat. $200 is way expensive to me. Sad
