Simply Fab: Calypso Satin Convertible Wrap Dress

I've already been a bridesmaid one too many times in my life. Can you sense the lack of enthusiasm in my voice, er words? If my friends had let me wear this Calypso Satin Convertible Wrap Dress ($270), my outlook on bridesmaid fashion would be very different. What I love about it is that it can be worn eight different ways . . . or more, if you're super creative. As if that wasn't Fab enough, it's hand washable. Gorgeous and low-maintenance? Nice.

$270 is a lot to ask bridesmaids to spend on dresses... at least in my circle of friends. Maybe your friends have a lot more money to spend than mine... but with hotel rooms, flights to the wedding, etc., there was no way I was going to ask them to spend more than $150 for the entire outfit.

    I have this dress!!

I bought it for a charity thing I went to last spring & it is the PERFECT dress. It's a big stretchy circle skirt with two pieces on top that you can wrap to cover you however you want. I wore it a bit revealingly & felt uncomfortable that I was showing too much skin, so my friend & I went into the bathroom & she helped me rewarp it so I was more covered. It's also wonderful in the summer since it's so light.

PS. the shimmer isn't so gaudy in real life

I agree with plasticapple...but it might be a better pick for a bridesmaid dress than some of the others that are collecting dust in the closet!

I'm kind of digging the blue variation of the dress. It would be cool for NYE. Plus hand washable is always better than dry clean only. That makes it more than worth the money.

    Eh.

I like the concept but I tend to think that an uneven hem looks sloppy, unless its worn with flat sandals at the beach.

I think it's cute, but I'm not sure it's really a very good bridesmaid dress... it seems a little too elaborate - the attention really should be on the bride!

I've seen this online before. It's a neat idea but I don't think I'd want it as bridesmaid dress for my wedding.

My co-worker tried this on in ivory at a Calypso boutique and at 5' with real-woman curves (not hollywood "curves") she looked absolutely fabulous! The material is not at all cheap as it tends to look in the photos.

I'll admit, I kind of like it. And it is worlds better than many of the bridesmaid dresses I've seen.

def not for a BM dress. i looked through the ways to wrap it on their website and the backs are very revealing. better for beach/resort wear.

I love multipurpose things! I love this dress!! wish I saw it for my wedding. although $250 is a bit steep for something made out of satin. I love all things "calypso"!! my best friends and I are obsessed!!

I think its a great idea! $250 may be expensive for a bridesmaid dress but I'd rather spend $250 on something I will wear again and again then $150 on something that is too ugly or elaborate to wear again. It's money well spent! And it doesn't look cheap to me! It looks like the material BCBG makes a lot of their dresses out of and they are always so flattering!

i have to say- i saw a girl trying this on in boston to wear for her wedding- in cream- and she looked great- the lady in the store knew how to twist the dress in so many different ways. she had so many great looks to choose from. i have to say it looked better in person than in those pics above- it was really pretty cool!!

I have this dress, too, but the older jersey version. Seriously, it is the best fashion investment I have ever made. I've worn it at least 15 different ways (more traditional ways than those pictured here) and it never fails to bring me compliments, even from the salespeople at Barneys in NYC. The photos posted here might not be the most flattering, but trust me, it is a GREAT dress.
