Trend Alert: Juicy Red Patent Handbags

The differences between a juicy red patent handbag and a super slick black bag are three-fold.

  1. Black is mysterious; red is in-your-face.
  2. Black is sophisticated. Red patent bags can teeter between sophisticated and déclassé. I prefer darker hues; when the red is too bright it's too much.
  3. Black is safe(er). A red patent bag is for the super confident woman. Are you ready for one?

Speaking of confidence. The red metallic Bottega below is beyond patent. I can't decide if it's sophisticated or déclassé. You tell me. Never, have I seen a bolder Bottega.

I agree with you about the bright red factor - it can definitely look less-than-classy. I love love love the isabella fiore and the choo. I could rock those bags!

I got a red patent bag for my birthday that I regifted. I love red, but I'm not a fan of patent bags. It's not as classic and timeless as regular leather.

It looks okay on the dark rich reds. I'm not a fan of the bright orange red ones, they just look cheap to me.

IMO, the level of craftmanship of the B.V. bags usually keeps them from descending into realm of the less-than-classy. Besides, other than the color the design is very simple and understated.

I have a small cranberry red patent Furla. It is just the right amount of color. I actually just bought a "doctors bag" version of the Isabella Fiore in black. Altough I like some of the bags above, none of them are must haves for me.

I have several red bags, in different shapes & sizes. The majority of those tend to be the darker cranberry red, though. I love the cranberry red color for anything!

Love this trend for two reasons:

    1. Big jewel tones are soo refreshing against all the monochromatic black/greys going on this season and
    2. Patent leather is sexy! If you can get nice quality patent leather, I don't think it's a cheap looking material at all and perfect nights out on the town.
