Model Coco Rocha Says the Supermodel Has Returned, and Her Explanation as to Why Is Pretty Darn Perfect

When model Coco Rocha shared a photo of Gigi and Bella Hadid on Instagram — complete with the caption "I've been doing this modeling thing for a minute and I'd just like to say, for the record, Gigi Hadid and Bella Hadid are the REAL DEAL. #Supermodels" — we were a little surprised. It's rare for icons to share support for today's It girls, since many claim they've had it too easy, so we immediately needed to know more. Luckily, Coco was more than happy to share the story as we chatted with her about a guest appearance on Top Photographer, a new competition show from Nigel Barker.

Inspired by the incident in which Gigi was picked up by a prankster, Coco thought it was the perfect time to share her love and tell the world that supermodels are indeed back. Read on for her full explanation, then check out more models you need to know, ASAP.

Coco Rocha Used to Think the Days of Supermodels Were Over

"I’ve always said in all interviews that, at the time, I never thought we had supermodels — I thought supermodels were of an era, of a moment. Unless you were working in the ‘80s, you were not considered a supermodel. Even my generation, you weren't talking about your top models. We were not in the tabloids 24/7, you weren't wondering what we were wearing. You were inspired by us, but if you didn't know the fashion industry, you didn't know your top models."

But She's Now Changed Her Mind

"You look at what's in the tabloids now, it's model this, model that, Gigi model, model style, what they're doing, how you can be like them, I love them. That's what supermodels used to be like. When you saw them on the runway, you only saw them, you didn't think about the clothes. When you saw them on the streets of any city, you wanted to be them, you had to be around them. That's what has returned. Even when people say I am a supermodel, I'm flattered to hear that, but I don't think that my generation ever created a moment like it's come back now."
