Even if you didn't turn into a Bridezilla, the letdown after your wedding day can feel overwhelmingly depressing, and the feelings around postnuptial depression are now being recognized by psychiatrists and therapists. According to a recent article on Time.com, therapists say that most people experience some sort of letdown after the big day, but five to 10 percent of newlyweds experience strong enough feelings of remorse, sadness, or frustration to seek professional help. To avoid these feelings, the article offers some advice:

After the vows, to defeat the postnuptial blues, doctors say couples should get adequate rest and exercise; communicate constantly; focus on the benefits of marriage, such as having a built-in support system; and start thinking about the future in terms of family or finance. Women especially should also stop thinking of themselves as The Bride: throw out those wedding magazines, then plan some social events for after the honeymoon, so you have other parties to look forward to.

DearSugar and Being Punished Betsy need your help. She's a bridesmaid in her cousin's wedding and the bride doesn't want her to bring a date. She feels like she's being punished because she's not in a serious relationship, so what should she do since she doesn't want to go alone?

Dear Sugar,
My cousin is getting married in the Spring; she's a month older than me and we've been raised almost like sisters. I'm in the bridal party and am flying in with my parents from out of town. I want my best friend (he's gay) to be my date for the wedding, but when I asked her, she said that she "really needs me to be there for her 100 percent," even though her sister is the maid of honor and she has four other bridesmaids. We had this conversation several months ago but I didn't tell my friend that my cousin said no because he wasn't sure if he would be able to come anyway.

He just told me today that he is free that weekend and that he'd love to be my date. The more I think about it the more I feel that I should be able to bring someone. If I were to get married next year and had my cousin in my wedding, it would be understood that she could bring her husband the same way it would be understood that my friend would come if he was my boyfriend.

My parents love him so I know that if I were to be busy or preoccupied with helping her or doing something for the wedding, he'd be OK — he's a big social butterfly as it is — so I don't understand what the big deal is. I get that my cousin wants this opportunity to have the spotlight, (as she should ) but is asking to bring a date an unreasonable request? I feel as though I'm being punished for being single! I don't want to cause problems before her special day but I truly don't want to go stag. What should I do? — Being Punished Betsy

If you remember the craziness of the wedding season at Sugar, then you remember the myriad possibilities there are to add a geeky touch to your wedding. Sure, a lot was fun to look at, but sometimes you don't stuff that's so overt. You could wear this Nintendo Garter ($23), and the only people who have to know are you and your groom. And your groom's buddies post-wedding when he brags about how awesome his new bride is, wearing Nintendo lingerie and all.What do you think? Would you sport this under your dress?

Weddings haven’t halted with the economic slowdown, but couples have been reconsidering the budgets for their big day. Old tricks like hiring local music students to perform as an orchestra, opting for seasonal floral arrangements, and pouring wine but nixing the bar are becoming more common. The New York Times interviewed some budget-conscious brides and grooms that have a few other tricks up their sleeves.

One couple posted an ad on Craigslist for a photographer and offered a flat $200 fee. In just a few hours they received 70 responses and chose one that was trying to build a career as a wedding photographer. They gave her $40 extra to buy a better lens to shoot their wedding — $240 total for a photographer is inexpensive and avoids having to ask family members to be responsible for taking pictures.
A planner suggests that if the wedding needs to be indoors, consider a restaurant. Event spaces usually charge a venue fee but restaurants typically do not.
If you need to rent tables and chairs through a rental company, do your research. Some companies require higher minimums than others.
