Who Wore It Better? Missoni Sequined Vest

Ashley Olsen and Margherita Missoni are friends, so it's funny that both of them wore Missoni's sequined vest. I guess some friends do dress alike! Ashley first wore it at an amFAR event back in January, with barely any accessories. Underneath it, she wore a white, silk floor-length dress that covers her shoes. Margherita opted for a little more dazzle when she wore the vest at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival. The dress she paired it with is also white with small pink dots, and her oversized clutch is metallic gray. She also threw on bangles, earrings, and a necklace. Ash is characteristically understated, and Margherita is accessorized like always. Who do you think wore it better? Source

Sadly, the Cannes Film Festival will soon be closing its curtains for 2008. This year brought out some fabulous looks ranging from the cool and casual air of Julianne Moore to the more artistic confections worn by Rose McGowan in Dolce & Gabbana and Natalie Portman in Givenchy. One of our absolute favorites was Angelina Jolie showing off her growing baby bump in an olive green Max Azria Atelier gown, Brad at her side. And there's lots more where that came from — enjoy!

Seeing Vogue Paris editor Carine Roitfeld and her daughter Julia in such powerful ensembles at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival makes me wish my mom and I were that rich and famous! There were a lot, and I mean a lot, of stunning red-carpet looks this week, but no one was as captivating as this fashionable French mother-daughter duo. Natalie Portman in Givenchy came in at close second, but Carine and Julia take the crown because I believe in power in numbers. The first of the two — Carine in Lanvin — were slick women in black. Later, at the amFAR event they were bombshells in Balmain (cue lightening sound effects). Fierce.

With such a gorgeously feminine dress, it's no surprise that two svelte beauties fell in love with it. Keira Knightley first wore Valentino's beaded, tiered dress to the BAFTA awards back in February. She decided against any jewels or accessories, making the dress the center of attention. Russian model Natalia Vodianova stepped out in the same dress at the amFAR event at Cannes Film Festival. She accessorized with a matching champagne clutch and dangly earrings. It's almost as though Balmain's bohemian dress was made for Kate Hudson at the SAG awards, so it's hard to imagine anyone else wearing it. But alas, Jimmy Choo founder Tamara Mellon showed up to the amfAR event at Cannes Film Festival in the same dress. Right off the bat, it's obvious Tamara got spray tanned, so the color palette is very different. She also has more chunky jewelry than Kate. Trend Alert: The Bronze Gladiator

I revel in it when a previous bargain of mine finally makes it to trend status. Not to brag, but I scored a pair of Christian Dior bronze gladiators over a year ago on major markdown — they were from the 2008 Cruise collection. It was right when gladiators were surfacing, though I've always liked the masculine/feminine sandal. Now gladiators are every which where and it was hard to miss Gwyneth's Giuseppe Zanotti for Balmain bronze sandals at the Two Lovers premiere in Cannes. So we all have black ones, move on to the lover, the fighter, the bronze gladiator.

Sarah Michelle Gellar wore this dramatic and classy Bottega Veneta strapless black gown at the Costume Institute Gala and she chose to accessorize with a crocodile clutch and artsy earrings. Christina Ricci wore the same dress at the Chopard Party in Cannes pairing her look with a clutch similar to Gellar's and opted to keep her earrings simple. Talk about poor planning. Actresses Kristin Scott Thomas and Natalie Portman both showed up to the 2008 Cannes Film Festival in blue Lanvin dresses. It's bad enough that they're both wearing the same designer to the same premiere, but throw on top of it the fact that they're the same shade of blue. It's definitely not my favorite dress of hers, especially after all her smashing Iron Man looks, but it's not disastrous either. The Week's Fab Favorite: Julianne Moore

I have always loved Julianne Moore — I think she is Hollywood's most talented redhead. Amber Waves made waves at the Cannes Film Festival in this black and blue Lanvin. The ultra-chic blue silk satin dress with ruffle neckline under a black silk tuxedo blazer suited her perfectly. She made it more casual by pushing up the jacket sleeves (or was she hot?) and wearing a pair of adorable Chloe sunglasses. Her razored cut was perfection; she looked cool and comfortable.

She may be a bit covered up for the heat of Cannes, but just toss off the blazer and it's still a super Fab look. You all loved Angelina at Cannes and weren't sure about Eva Longoria, but I think this French-friendly fit takes the Cannes cake.

I love that she took such an exquisite gown and gave it a splash of hippie with the braided headband. Fab Flash: Gwyneth Paltrow, Dennis Hopper, and Tod's Make a (Mini) Movie

This week the Cannes Film Festival kicks off — yay! We're super excited to see what everyone will be wearing in the fabulous south of France. But it's really all about the movies that will be debuting.

Here's a short film that sounds right up our alley: Directed by actor and director Dennis Hopper, and featuring Gwyneth Paltrow, we see a day in the life of the blond fashion star in Italy with her Tod's Pashmy bag. Hopper happens to be old friends with Tod's chief executive officer Diego Della Valle (who knew?) and the four-minute film will debut at Cannes and then play on the Tod's website. Sounds like a fun little project to me.
