Designer Spotlight: Doucette Duvall

A few years ago Stephanie Doucette and Annebet Duvall took their neighborly friendship to the next level and collaborated on a clothing collection dubbed Doucette Duvall. To date, the designing duo are still going strong and creating beautiful vintage-inspired offerings. Liv Tyler looks stunning in their asymmetrical LBD, seen left.

In their effort to green the planet, Doucette and Duvall manufacture their entire collection in NYC's garment district and use recycled fabrics and trim. Their Spring collection is inspired by their female lineage and includes a whimsical assortment of dresses made in quaint prints. I particularly love the mix of modern and vintage in this floral print bubbles dress. Items range from $250 to $400 and are available at ShopFlick.com and boutiques worldwide.

Designer Spotlight: Sara Shepherd

I love discovering local designers. My latest find, Sara Shepherd, is originally from Britain but has since jumped continents. She now calls San Francisco home and her hybrid of American and British influences has resulted in an amazing and meticulous collection of clothing.

Two years after graduating from the Academy of Art University in 2005, the designer debuted her first collection in 2007.

In her third collection to date, Shepherd shows off her masterful skills in tailoring creating a modern menswear-inspired line. Her amazing cape coat — seen left — is just one example of her eye for fine detailing. I fancy how she mixes masculine cuts with feminine details. Shepherd's been heralded as an emerging designer, so don't say I didn't warn you!

Designer Spotlight: Oh de Cologne

Most of you were on Team Cologne from Stylista. Though she got the boot, she's not sitting at home crying. Nay. The California girl has a clothing and jewelry collection called Oh de Cologne. Eau de perfume, Oh de Cologne — cute. Much like her outfits on the show, the line consists of vibrant floral print frocks, tempered by brown belts and tall boots. Her jewelry is limited to cologne bottle vials. She's certainly taking advantage of her unique name. The prices are steep — $189 to $229 for dresses, $86 for the necklace — but the selection and styling is fun. Cologne has found her signature style and is sticking to it.

Designer Spotlight: Cardigan by Lynne Hiriak

Imagine my joy when I came across Cardigan by Lynne Hiriak. This only feeds into my cardigan obsession, you know. Having worked as a design consultant for Thakoon, Derek Lam, and Lela Rose, Hiriak set out to create cozy knits and cardigans with just-right prices. Her items, found at Barneys, eLUXURY, and Saks, hover between $145 and $695, with most in the $200 to $300 range. Not bad for a classic knit you will have for decades. The designer explains: "We do offer a lot of products in a range that is affordable. People say we're a fashion line and we're a product line. We're utilitarian."

As someone who is is cardigan-obsessed, my cardigan collection ranges from cheapy H&M ones to cashmere White + Warren ones. Both can deliver the buttoned-up or laid-back style of the omnifunctional cardi, but this Cardigan is going on my Christmas wish list.

Designer Spotlight: Pour La Victoire

Whoever this Victoire character is, she is one lucky girl to have a stunning shoe collection dedicated to her. Perhaps it's Princess Victoire of France, or maybe it's the concept of victory. Either way, designer David Giordano has done an impressive job at creating killer footwear for women who can handle height.

The New York City cobbler draws inspiration from Dries van Noten and Alessandro dell'Acqua, hence the avant-garde quality of his work. We've seen cutouts, but this Pour La Victoire Bianca Cutout Platform Bootie ($292) executes it with such softness. I'll take that. And that, and the others.

Looking at Trang Chau's designs makes me want to fast forward to the future. Her label, dubbed Le Sang des Betes, is filled with experimental pieces that remind me of sci-fi superheroes. With her debut collection, Aborigine, Chau draws inspiration from sculpture, film, architecture, and costume design, creating an intriguing collection of Gothic-meets-modern marvels.

Not only are her insect-like cuts refreshing and innovative, but they're also sustainable. This conscious designer sources all of her materials from LA. Clap, clap!

Handbag Designer Spotlight: Jasmin K

Sometimes, all I want is a simple bag. Sounds easy enough, but you'd be surprised with the number of nasties I've run into lately. Some designers tend to mistake simplicity for drab, but not Jasmin K. Her handbags evoke a cool, modern aesthetic without looking busy. Succinct and sexy.

Jasmin's newly launched line encompasses a casual lux attitude and I'm loving it. My favorite is the Tia Shoulder Bag ($310). I like the slouchy shape and better yet, it's affordable! Most of her bags range from $150 to $300, which is not bad for a handcrafted piece. I suggest you nab one before they go mainstream.

Minimal clothing is cool, but sometimes I itch for pieces that appear to have a rich history. JMM is precisely that. Its use of details like feathers and quirky designs makes it quaint and familiar. The line currently offers everything from casual dresses to fancy ones, cropped vests to delicate blouses, and unique jackets.

I envision seeing JMM's pieces sitting in a funky little vintage shop. The prices aren't cheap — $253 for this flower print dress — but investing in unique items that transcend trends is worth every penny.

If I ever meet shoe designer Jeffrey Campbell, the first thing I'll tell him is that he nailed it. I already have three pairs, and I am always looking for more. His creations are so comfortable; a friend of mine works out in a pair of his flats, no joke! As if that's not amazing enough, Campbell's footwear is also affordable — they hover from $50 to $100 — and you can always count on them to add fierceness to a feminine ensemble.

Considering how widespread Jeffrey Campbell shoes are, it's surprising the brand is only nine years old. The company is based in LA but also has an office in NYC. If you search for ferocious footwear with absolute comfort, JC is your man.

Now that Fall glimpses are underway, it's an opportune time to present to you the Fall collection of Ishii NYC. The brand was founded by Tamae Ishii, a Tokyo-born, California-raised fashion designer with a knack for traveling. Ishii graduated from Parsons School of Design in New York and worked with Valentino during her time in Italy. She also honed her skills alongside Calvin Klein, Jean Paul Gaultier, and Zac Posen. Not bad!

The Fall collection has an equestrian undertone but an air of elegance that women crave. Even Ishii's use of plaid is sophisticated. The line's cloche hats give a nod to the flirty flappers of the '20s. These combinations give you a collection you can't help gushing about.

This has led Brunsdon to achieve fashionable success with celebrity fans including Hilary Swank, Naomi Watts, Linda Evangelista, and Dita von Teese.

Brunsdon's Fall collection stays true to his iconic style with modern, elegantly-cut pieces mixed in with a bit of eccentric glamour. One of my favorite pieces is this merino wool Mischief Dress. The punchy teal color and suspender-like straps give the classic-cut dress a modern and funky twist. And that top hat was a fine styling choice.

Shoe Designer Spotlight: Courtney Crawford

Growing up in a household with five women, Courtney Crawford was well aware of the importance of a luxurious shoe.

After graduating from college in Florida, Courtney pursued his passion for designing shoes at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. There he garnered his talent and connected with some of the most prestigious players in the fashion industry. During his time at FIT, Courtney secured an internship with milliner and shoe designer Eugenia Kim. After only interning a couple of months with Eugenia, he was appointed head shoe designer for her company. The fresh-faced designer also collaborated with Missoni for her 2007 Spring shoe collection.

Courtney's sexy and confident shoes have charmed many celebs including Lindsay Lohan, Beyonce, Mariah Carey, and Nelly Furtado. Keep your eyes peeled for the debut of his new collection in stores and online!

Handbag Designer Spotlight: Michelle Vale

It all started last year with the quest for a handbag that goes with everything.

Tired of coming up short, native New Yorker Michelle Vale created her eponymous line of handbags with interchangeable hardware. Each bag comes with straps that can be swapped out, so, your options — wear the bag like a clutch or slung over the shoulder with a gold or silver strap.

While functionality is always a plus, Michelle also believes that practical doesn't have to mean plain. The line may still be young, but Cameron Diaz carries the Mushroom Jete clutch (left, $595) in her upcoming movie What Happens in Vegas and Kate Bosworth was spotted with the Entrechat ($895) on her birthday. I have to admit they're pretty Fab. The fabric is soft to the touch and the subtle (super)fine detailing is pretty nice — not to mention the cute gold buttons. Their 2008 Fall line stays true to their mantra in creating simple and clean silhouettes with a London attitude.

Shoe Designer Spotlight: Camilla Skovgaard

Guess what? Fab has a new BFF and you know her, too: Shopbop! Together, we voted them our favorite online shop last year and now we're partnering with them and going to bring you special Shopbop posts every week. We hope you like them (smile).

Anywho, have I mentioned how happy I am women are choosing shoes over bags because the choices right now are so incredible? Take for instance the sexy-as-hell footwear of Denmark designer Camilla Skovgaard. As soon as I laid eyes on this Camilla Skovgaard Two Band High Heel Sandal ($492), I knew I wanted to know more about the designer. Sure enough, all her footwear is to drool for.

Given that she formerly designed shoes for the Sheikhs' wives and daughters in Dubai, her talent and determination are no surprise. After seven years in Dubai, Camilla moved to London and completed a BA degree in footwear at Cordwainers shoe college. Her education was certainly worth it because her creations are all over Shopbop and Vogue . . . and soon to be on the feet of budding fashionistas!

In designer Heidi Handler's world, contrast plays a major role. Strong and soft hues are fused, metallics are worn in a casual manner, and simple and complex are bosom buddies.

Lovenia, named after Heidi's great-grandmother, is the designer's debut collection and it's nothing short of perfection. Four years ago, when Ashleigh Verrier graduated from Parsons School of Design in New York, Saks did an unprecedented thing: They bought her entire senior thesis collection.

Since then, the former Proenza Schouler intern has culled her line with a feminine, vintage-inspired aesthetic that produces fluttery ruched tops, satin tulip skirts, and sheer organza dresses. Ashleigh infuses her ladylike looks with a few subversive elements like cropped tops or see-through fabric, and is definitely a die-hard devotee to the world of fashion: She named her dog Schiaparelli, after the famous Parisian fashion designer of the '20s and '30s, Elsa Schiaparelli.

In 2006, Canadian film and TV wardrobe designer Jude Feller looked high and low for detail-oriented, casual clothes for her clients but was unsuccessful in her search. This prompted her to leave her job and create Lily + Jae, a line of contemporary streetwear designed for an energetic, innocent, and playful girl next door.

The inspiration behind the 22-piece line is none other than her favorite 150-year-old Victorian combing jacket she owned and wore for over 10 years. Designer Spotlight: Stine Goya

She has been a model for Chanel, a stylist for Harper's Bazaar, and a fashion editor for Cover magazine, and with her new eponymous line, Danish designer Stine Goya has felt out all aspects of the fashion industry.

Her Stine Goya label is full of bright colors, geometric patterns, jumpsuits, draped dresses, and little dashes of metallics. The collection definitely has a distinct, stark Scandinavian feel to it, but not so much that we can't get in on the fun as well. I'm going to be keeping my eye on this one . . .

Ali Kay and Anne des Barres are a match made in heaven — Diane von Furstenberg heaven, that is. DVF introduced the two: Anne was working for her at the time, and Ali was her son's girlfriend.

From the chance introduction, Keep Me was born — a new loungewear collection without all the frills. In just the year and a half that Keep Me has existed, its first collection sold out at Bendel's, and it has garnered celeb fans like Jessica Alba, Kate Beckinsale, Jennifer Aniston, and Courtney Cox. No wonder: Ali and Anna decided to stick with muted solids accented by athletic-inspired striped elastic — sounds cozy, luxurious, and even a little sexy.

Womenswear designer Erdem Moralioglu is only 31 but he already has a prestigious 2005 Fashion Fringe Award under his buckle belt. As a result, he turned his passion into a career and nabbed two major accounts: Harrods and Ashley's boutique on Conduit Street in London.

Born in Montreal, Erdem first studied liberal arts, but became smitten with the fashion world after working at Vivienne Westwood. He then went on to get an MA in fashion at the Royal College of Art. His unique prints and worldwide traveling experiences set him apart and have caught the attention of celebs like Claudia Schiffer, Tilda Swinton, and Nicole Richie. Designer Spotlight: TT Collection

Talk about connections. TT Collection designer Tiffany Saidnia's first foray into fashion was via famous celebrity stylist, Jessica Pastor, where she learned the wants of high-profile customers. Seeking more of a challenge, the LA-native entered the garment industry to learn the construction of clothes.

Her first jobs were at Ella Moss and Splendid, here she gained experience with knits and garment dying. She eventually moved on to working closely for designer Pegah Anvarian and with her she learned the art of draping and the creation of designer knit garments. Next, she landed at Henry Duarte and simultaneously launched a knit division of graphic tees. She later launched the denim and sportswear division of friend Tara Subkoff’s company, Imitation of Christ. Whew!

Tiffany's vast industry experience is evidenced in her knit collection, which includes luxury basics at contemporary price points ($32-$120).

Shoe Designer Spotlight: Jonathan Kelsey

Move over Christian Louboutin — there's a new shoe man in town, and he's serving up sexy and intelligent footwear. I'm not implying that Loub needs to move out, but his new neighbor, Jonathan Kelsey, is posing a serious threat. Jonathan honed his skills at Jimmy Choo, Cacharel, and Giles Deacon, so his posh designs should come as no surprise. His current collection, available at Saks Fifth Avenue, is a nod to the mid-'70s collection in his mother's closet. Cute! Prices range from $550 to $975. Pricey, yes, but so hard to say no.

Designer Spotlight: Tamara Pogosian

Armenian designer Tamara Pogosian may have started her fashion career in 2002 when she debuted her first collection, but her passion for clothes was seeded long before that. Born in Armenia, raised in Russia, Tamara experienced her love for fashion at the age of 12, when she would watch Fashion Television with host Jeanie Becker (me too!). She instantly knew she wanted to be in the industry in some capacity.

In 1992, she moved to NYC to attend Parson's School of Design and FIT and that's where her career gained wings. Besides designing her own men's and women's line, Tamara also freelances for Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, Coach, DKNY Jeans, Victoria's Secret, and more.
