Whitney Port has packed her bags and headed East to film her own reality show. Since she'll be working for the divine Diane von Furstenberg, it only makes sense that she's already started wearing the designer's goods. While out and about in SoHo, she carried the Diane von Furstenberg briefcase clutch you all were torn over. She also wore the designer's menswear vest. I love that she made the outfit more feminine with a red skirt from her new line. I'm excited to see more NYC Whitney sightings in the future.

I'm impressed by Paris Hilton's decision to wear a gorgeous emerald green Diane von Furstenberg dress to the David Letterman Show. The hue looks just as good on blonds as it does on red heads. I am especially into the peek-a-boo lace effect on the bodice. Though Paris usually likes to pile on the accessories, she kept it surprisingly simple. Not a jewel in sight; only a small black bag and snakeskin pumps. Brava.

Fab Finding Follow-Up: Dance the Day Away

A friend of mine is in a modern dance group and they're having their recital soon. She invited me to go, and though I'm excited to see her moves, I'm nervous about my outfit. The only other dance recital I've been to was my little cousin's ballet class. I wanted to look dance-inspired but not foolish. Thanks for all of the lovely suggestions. I'm confident that I'll fit right in with the dance crowd in one of these sweet ensembles.

I started you off with this Jennifer Ouellette Headband ($75) because it has a sweet ballet aesthetic that will make me fit in with the dancers.

New York Fashion Week, Spring 2009: Diane von Furstenberg

If Diane von Furstenberg were in high school, she would be class president. Among all her CFDA duties, she struck gold with another stunning collection. This time, Jennifer Lopez, Uma Thurman, and Gossip Girls Leighton Meester and Jessica Szohr sat front row. As well, Molly Sims, Rosario Dawson, Sanaa Lathan and, my personal favorite, model Stephanie Seymour (in Alaia!). Whew. And I'm sure they were all dazzled.This go around was dubbed "Rock Goddess," and Diane described it as "an homage to Diana Vreeland, who taught us we could be goddesses and rock stars." With a big dose of flower child, DVF dresses and separates in India-inspired hues and adornments were my favorites. Some white cotton lace numbers were sweet, while floor-grazing floral gowns were demure. Prints were plentiful and gold sequins sparkled. Her take on silk pants, which I'm seeing everywhere, is wearable and simply pretty. And the headpieces — too fun. So fun, even the models were smiling.

The weather is still warm and I love it. Last week I attended a hotel rooftop pool party with a bunch of friends. I'm sure I'll cherish the memory come next season's gusty winds. Lots of splashing, drinking, munching, and some dancing were involved. Who was up for the challenge of dressing me? Many years ago, Diane von Furstenberg and Andy Warhol hooked up at Studio 54. Not that type of hookup, silly! DVF posed for one of Warhol's iconic portraits (see below). Once again, the designer will be collaborating with the late artist, through The Andy Warhol Foundation, to create a 2008 Resort and 2009 pre-Spring swimwear collection featuring Warhol's prints.

“Andy’s Pop colors and iconic images feel glamorous and right for beach,” said von Furstenberg. The collection of beach-worthy items will use bright hues and big-leaf colors printed on bikinis, caftans, and one-piece suits. “Andy and I were contemporaries, so it feels right,” said von Furstenberg.

Fashion moves at the speed of light. While some designers with sound financing can keep up, there are many who can't and don't want to. Those in the latter situation have shifted their mentality and are taking a more seasonless stance on fashion.

"What excites us about the seasonless approach is that after decades of forced obsolescence by design in retail, people are beginning to rewrite the rules on what is an acceptable rhythm in the fashion cycle," said Brian Janusiak, founder of Project No. 8, a fashion and design outpost in New York's Chinatown.

Signs of a seasonless fashion future have already surfaced. First, global warming is causing seasonal temperature changes and unpredictability. A more subtle change is that designers are placing more importance on resort collections. Diane von Furstenberg, for example, included more seasonless pieces in her 2009 resort collection (above) to give her jet-setting customers more flexibility.

We all use Google, so why not make our search engine as fabulous as we are? iGoogle has introduced artistic homepage themes and the ones us Fabionistas will appreciate are those designed by Dolce & Gabbana, Oscar de la Renta (mine, below), Diane von Furstenberg, and Tory Burch. I played around and first picked the leopard Dolce & Gabbana background, but later decided Oscar de la Renta's colorful Ikat designs from his Spring '08 show are more fun. Just because you have the word bridesmaid attached to your name for the next couple months doesn't mean you have to dress tacky at your friend's wedding. We all know bridesmaid dresses have a tainted reputation but it's clearly warranted. I mean, who wants to walk around in ill-colored taffeta all night?

If the bride is your close friend or sister, suggest that the wedding party wear nontraditional frocks. Short, bright, floral . . . they will all set the tone for her Spring nuptials. At long last — after all of the notice-me advertising — Forgetting Sarah Marshall is finally here. Kristen Bell went all out in an appropriately tropical look for the Hawaii—set movie, choosing a Jenni Kayne printed maxi dress in an extra fresh cobalt blue and white palette. What really makes this special is the abundance of chunky gold accessories. They could have thrown the look into overkill territory, but with her beachy updo and casually glam dress, the overall effect strikes just the right balance.

Maybe maxi dresses really will catch on big time. They do capture that bohemian Summer vibe oh so well. Miss Molly Sims debuted the bold dress at Diane von Furstenberg's dinner I attended back in February, and Garcelle Beauvais Nilon selected it for a Saks Fifth Avenue event yesterday. They both wisely chose bare necklines and upswept 'dos, paving the way for the dress to make the main statement. It fits both of them like a dream, but I'm liking the shoulder cutouts on Molly's a tad bit more for that extra flash of skin. Who do you think wore it better?Source

I am in love with her latest crop of ethnic-inspired frocks, especially this Diane von Furstenberg Ora Patchwork Dress ($585). Though I'm hesitant to deem Paris a style icon, I have to admit this dress works particularly well with her slim figure and height. Do you agree? Source

Like the Greek legend herself, something about the swirls and knots on these is so enchanting. We've seen snakes come and go in the fashion, but these are more wearable and less fierce. And, you don't have to worry about people turning to stone after gazing down at your sexy, swirly feet.

Maxi dresses are the ultimate way to exude a stylish laid-back look. Just look at Stella McCartney's Spring '08 collection, which was filled with feminine floral maxis. Also take cue from Nicole Richie who recently frolicked LA in a paisley maxi dress. There's something to be said about a dress that can make you look put together and feel comfy at the same time. Do what you will with the neckline but make sure your maxi is floor length. After all, anything shorter wouldn't be a mile-long maxi.

Fab Flash: NY Fashion Week to Move to Rail Yards

New York Fashion Week has been held in Bryant Park for the last 17 years, but it looks like that run may be nearing the end of its course.

Although IMG Fashion, who owns Fashion Week, has a contractual agreement to house the tents in Bryant Park through February 2010, a new placement is needed after that date. The current idea being discussed is relocating to the 10th Avenue rail yards, which are currently up for bids on redevelopment. Word is that Mayor Bloomberg has told CFDA President Diane von Furstenberg that whoever wins the bid will have to ensure that the new complex can house Fashion Week.

Although this is just a possibility, it's hard to imagine Fashion Week anywhere but in Bryant Park.

In honor of International Women's Day on Mar. 8, Diane von Furstenberg has partnered with the nonprofit Vital Voices Global Partnership for a new campaign, "Women Can."

The initiative is set on inspiring female leaders in developing countries. To aid the effort, DVF has pledged to donate 10 percent of this week's sales in her freestanding stores and on her website, DVF.com, to Vital Voices. She's also hosting talks and special events in her stores during this time. If you're feelin' the woman power this week, shop DVF!
