On Our Radar: Nicole Miller Goes From Night to Day

Nicole Miller thinks daytime dresses are rather plain, so naturally, it was her duty to save the world one dress at a time. The designer, who's known for her embellished evening dresses, will be offering a collection of mid-day amusements under her Nicole Miller Studio One label.

“There are also a lot of prints and solids. This won’t be minimalist. It has a very modern and young attitude,” said the designer.

Wholesaling from $110 to $345, the 24-style dress collection, featuring special treatments and embroidery, will be available at Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue this month, while her sportswear line will debut in Fall 2009.

This Just In! Lauren Conrad Dishes About Her Emmy Dress Design

One dress we're eagerly anticipating this Sunday at the Primetime Emmy Awards won't be on the red carpet, but rather on stage. In case you didn't get the memo, Lauren Conrad's designing the dress for this year's trophy girls, and we've got more details.

In a recent ET online interview, The Hills star dishes on her creation. "I did green because green [is the] theme for the Emmys this year," said Conrad, who also mentions using a diamond brooch, signifying the Emmy's 60th anniversary, to accessorize the gown.

The new author will also wear her own design to the event. Her dress will be the same green fabric as the trophy girls', with diamond jewels kept to a minimum. Coincidence? I think not.

A few months earlier, Victoria Beckham announced that she will be designing a dress collection. Now, we have the pictures to prove it. The debut dresses encompass a style true to her own with a collection of streamlined sheaths and embellished strapless dresses such as the ones seen below.

“The collection was inspired by the femininity and sophistication of the midcentury silhouette,” said Beckham. “I’ve always been drawn to intricate, seam-detailed designs, as their structure enhances the flattering shape of a woman’s silhouette.”

Her 10-style collection incorporates basket-weave cotton, fine gazar, and georgette silks embellished with Indian embroidery and beading. Beckham's dresses range from $600 to $1,400 at wholesale, and will be unveiled via private showings during New York Fashion Week.

This leading lady is loyal, and we love it.The designer has been dressing Michelle and her two daughters since the beginning of the campaign trail. "She's like an average customer. She'll say, 'Oh, I like that dress.' She'll buy one or several," said Pinto, who credited Obama for her success. Timing couldn't have been better for the designer, who recently rebounded from employee embezzlement that resulted in bankruptcy and an illness, which left her bedridden for six months. Designer Spotlight: Wayne

Since we are in the midst of a dress frenzy, this designer has dresses figured out. Oh, and this designer is actually a girl named Wayne. Even though she's got a masculine name, her frocks are flowing and free, with a touch of tomboy. The blousy dresses and silky rompers are designed to disguise curves and show off perfect, or near-perfect, stems.

With a palette of black, white and a splash of color here and there, Wayne declares her clothes are "for the girls who believe in dressing effortlessly and elegantly at the same time." What a lovely fashion concept for a designer whose original aspiration was a career in medicine. Oh, and added bonus: pockets in every dress. Now that is the idea of a smarty pants if I ever saw one.

Prices range from $400-$700 and can be purchased at Barneys.
