Jill Stuart is pretty messy. No really, her Spring collection was pretty, and messy. Stuart was inspired by the ballet La Bayadère, which she saw last Summer. And now I'm inspired to layer sheers and whisper light jerseys, wrap random pieces of fabric around my torso, and even wear a head scarf. Stuart's angelic ballet dancers graced the runway in cloudy tones of gray, pink, peach, and ivory — added black supplied some seriousness. The accessories were Fab: musical, long, mixed-media necklaces, net-like socks, caged sandals, and light and leathery handbags. I was even attracted to the heather gray leggings and silk boxer shorts; must be the dancer in me wanting to cut a rug.

Trend Alert: Heavy Metal

I don't know if 15-year-old Taylor Momsen, of Gossip Girl fame, is really into heavy metal. However, I saw Guns n' Roses (and Metallica) when I was 12 so I was a wee rockin' chick. But she certainly played the part recently in Yves Saint Laurent, black leather, shimmering jewels, and smoky eyes. I would like to advocate that one should only attempt this look if they have rock in their soul, or the rock gods would not approve . . .

Fab Ad: Jill Stuart Fall 2008

Minus the fact that the model (Toni Garrn) is average at best, and I keep staring at the awesome paint background instead of the clothes, I am enamored by Jill Stuart's Fall 2008 ad campaign. It's gritty and messy, yet manages to look polished. Through these ads, the brand has perfected the dichotomy of grit and glamour. I admit I prefer Lindsay Lohan as a Jill Stuart model over Toni, but you can't beat this kind of setting. What do you think?

Lohan Replaced by Swank for Jill Stuart? Has Jill Stuart seen more of Lindsay Lohan than she'd like? Last fall, the New York-based designer tapped Lohan to be the face of her brand's first celebrity ad campaign. Now, Stuart is casting her fall '08 campaign, and she has her eyes on Hilary Swank, a somewhat older actress with a decidedly more professional image.

Lindsay's initial ad for Jill Stuart stirred up mixed emotions. I for one liked the provocative feel and moody photography but was disappointed because you couldn't see the clothes very well. Here are a couple more images where the clothes are a bit more front and center - but you can't help but notice Lindsay's desperate gaze. She may be a train wreck, but she is a gorgeous one whom the camera loves. Jill Stuart is a youthful, feminine fashion house that is clearly trying to delve into darker territory. I must say: Lindsay was a good choice! What do you all think?!

The month of June brings many things: the summer solstice, summer vacation... but if you're a handbag fiend, something more momentous is happening: the debut of Jill Stuart's handbag line!
The inaugural collection is actually two collections: the Leather Collection and the Vintage Collection. The Leather Collection consists of 10 different bags, from slouchy hobos to fold-over clutches, in colors like mascara, sweet cream, espresso, and slate - colors christened as such by Stuart herself. The Vintage Collection, on the other hand, includes Forties-inspired leather satchels and Sixties-inspired patent leather clutches - all of which come in bright colors. The bags range from $225-$550, and are stocked at Bloomingdale's, Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Kitson. Pretty, aren't they?

You know when you get to that point in the season when you are over wearing long jeans? I hit that point a couple months ago because I just had to let my legs breathe after months of tights, long pants and knee-high boots. But if you're a lover of denim, as this week's Life & Style points out, the easy breezy denim skirt is a fine alternative. I have about three of these and they smoothly say laid-back but feminine. What's more, my legs can finally breathe!

We can all look forward to a larger presence from girly designer Jill Stuart, especially since Lindsay Lohan is the new JS girl. I would always pop into the JS store in Soho in NYC and oogle over her lacy dresses and super fab shoes. I am excited for the clothing line and accessories overhaul. And here is one of the first images to go along with the it. The attempt, shot by Mario Sorrenti, is no doubt Brigitte Bardot sex kitten. While you all know I'm not digging Lindsay as a blonde, she does have that come hither look. The wrinkled sheets are an artsy touch and the black sequined mini skirt definitely suits Lindsay. But, haven't we seen the laying-in-bed-almost-in-the-buff attempt before? The photo may be pretty but it's a bit ho-hum. Oh, and then there's the oversized black patent handbag she is cozying up with; it has It bag potential.Evidently the ad will run from August through November. Stuart proclaims:

"I can't say enough fantastic things about Lindsay...she is sexy and smart, exactly what the Jill Stuart woman embodies."

Well, we'll see about that. What do you all think?Source

New York Fashion Week, Fall 2007: Jill Stuart

The look at Jill Stuart was Mod, baby. Fashion is repeating itself and we are clearly in the 60s again. We've already caught glimpses of Sienna Miller's Mod looks from Factory Girl and know that stores have been carrying mini shift dresses for months. On to the good stuff...

Main silhouettes were swingy 60's inspired pea coats, hot pants and high waisted pants. Patent leather accents, bows and fur trim were key details. There were also playful hoods contrasted with plunging necklines on cocktail dresses. Colors were bold: black, electric blue and purple.

As for hair, think Marcia Brady. Center parts with straight hair that looked neat but not overdone. Hair was loose, not pin straight and teased in the back just a tad to give a messy effect. Most models had very long hair. For those who didn't, they were given the same style sans any extensions or falls.

Makeup was also reminiscent of the times. Models wore pale pale lips, which looked almost milky colored and cheeks were also pretty bare. They had a touch of contour to them, but no pop of color at all.

Eyes were grey and smokey with heavy black eyeliner around the rims. Mascara was especially dark and thick with tons of added fake eyelashes to add length and thickness. While the clothing was playful and the girls looked pretty - they didn't come off looking so soft and sweet; this show was most definitely serious Mod!

NY Fashion Week: Jill Stuart

On Monday, I was lucky enough to attend the Jill Stuart runway show, held at the New York Public Library as part of Fashion Week. Stuart's brave Spring 2007 collection blended traditional femininity with racy accents using lacy fabrics atop black and neutral tones. A few bolder colors stood out—including one hot-pink lace dress—but even the quieter pieces looked like they'd be great for a night out on the town. One of my favorite pieces was this flirty, white strapless cocktail dress with boning on the bodice.

Jill Stuart's highly wearable clothes clearly have a fan base that is all its own, and the guest list reflected that. In the front row sat a stunning Kate Bosworth, who was debuting her new razor cut bob, as well as Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Seventeen Magazine's Atoosa Rubinstein, Lee Ann Rimes, and The Devil's Advocate star Tamara Tunie.
