You've seen Rachel Bilson's Edie Rose for DKNY Jeans collection on the models and now you're seeing it on the designer. I have to say, I admire celebrity designers who actually wear their creations. Rachel promoted her new line over the weekend in Florida and decided to go the highly androgynous route in a black cropped blazer, menswear shirt with black tie from her collection, and a bowler hat. The line will be a part of their upper-tier label, The Row. Ashley came up with the idea and has started the design process for the collection which is rumored to debut in Fall '09. Ashley is known for her cool mixed masculine style so it kind of makes sense. Excitement for all.

We're always praising Lanvin's womenswear designer Alber Elbaz, but for a second let's focus on its menswear designer, Lucas Ossendrijver. In Details, he shares invaluable fashion tips for men, but one in particular stood out and applies to both sexes.

"Friday-wear is very typically American. You have this office uniform, and then suddenly it’s the weekend and it’s the opposite. I think it’s better to mix the two and make officewear a little less formal and Friday-wear a little less casual."
A-men! That's the best advice I've heard in a long time, and if every American swore by it, the country would be a far more fashionable place. I say, let's start this today!

2008 Fall Couture: Giorgio Armani

Can I steal Mr. Armani and bring him home as my personal dressmaker? Once again, the man has worked his magic and the result is an exquisite, finely tailored couture collection that flawlessly blends menswear with femininity. For me, this fusion never gets old. I presume muse Cate Blanchett will look beautiful in all of these designs.

To highlight the more masculine, Armani's high-waisted trousers sheen gives them a dressed up feel. Velvet pants, blazers, suspenders, and oversized, Alber Elbaz-style bow ties are also in this bunch. On the other end, femininity oozes from this collection via flowy chiffon dresses, sequins, and bows. I can see this collection seamlessly melding into the scenery of The Beautiful Fall, set in 1970s Paris. It calls for a sophisticated, empowered woman, not afraid to wear the pants.

It may appear that we've stumbled into non-Fab territory by asking you whether or not actor Emile Hirsch is a hottie or nottie, but he's not too far off from the fashion world. Here's the deal: Emile recently posed for Valentino's new Spring 2009 menswear collection, designed by Ferruccio Pozzoni. The black-and-white photographs, shot in Milan, served as the backdrop for the collection presentation in Paris on Friday. There's something so appealing, so male-model like, about seeing Emile in a slick Valentino getup, contrasted by his long hair and scruffy face. He's a hottie, times ten, in my book. Men's Fashion Week in Milan only means one thing to me: hot male models! Can you blame me? Sure, checking out the menswear trends is interesting, but the cheekbones and bodies of those male models are even more flawless. But all is not gorgeousness on the catwalks. A lot depends on the vibe the designer is trying to give off. For instance, Jill Sander's boys are more scrawny and pale and less sculpted and tan as say, Dolce & Gabbana's men. Playing Annie Hall was so natural for Diane Keaton, her personal style reflects what Annie would wear today, were she real. Yes, Diane has made a few fashion faux pas, but what risk-taker hasn't? If you don't take risks in fashion, you can't be in the running for a style icon. What's more, when Kate Moss is inspired by your style, you know you've got something special going on.

What attracts me to Diane's personal style is her ability to pull off androgynous looks with utter sophistication — like no other woman in Hollywood. She found a fashion genre that works for her, so she's stayed endlessly true to it. Not many fashion insiders have that much loyalty to one style. You've heard me go on and on about the menswear trend. When done right, it can make a girl look confident and fashion forward. When done incorrectly, per Kyra Sedgwick, it becomes a fashion train wreck. She simply has too much going on in her androgynous look. What she needed to do was pick one masculine item and keep the rest feminine.

If I were Kyra, I would have ditched that cheap-looking corset top, as it distracts the pretty blouse underneath. I would have opted for black or dark denim wide-leg trousers instead of shorts because the latter makes her look childish. I dig the patent oxfords so I'd keep those.

Have times changed for Ben Affleck or what? I just had to say something after I saw the photos of the current Bennifer strolling the farmers' market for Ben's 35th birthday. Just think about it: the happy and casual couple spent Ben's birthday shopping for groceries. During the Jennifer Lopez years (2002-2004), Ben would have celebrated by getting bottle service at Winstons in LA. Better yet, he would have rented the entire club out. Granted, Ben has always been Ben, but depending on the woman he's with, he has gone from complete divo to down-to-earth. Let's compare & contrast his double Bennifer looks...

Top: Divo Ben looks sharp as a knife in his ruched zip-up hoodie and form fitting blazer.

Bottom: Though he's wearing casual jeans, they have a vintage-wash that makes them extra stylish.

Accessories: He's wearing pretty-boy aviators and brown boots that are manly but still tidy. His hair looks like he spent hours and a whole bottle of gel on it.

Top: Daddy Ben is comfortable in a loose t-shirt; no fancy jacket required.

Bottom: His jeans have a more relaxed fit to them; very reflective of his current lifestyle.

Accessories: He's still sporting aviators but it looks completely different with a cap. He probably didn't feel like gelling his hair as that's too high maintenance, even for his birthday. His tennis shoes are sporty and more comfortable than heavy boots.
