Fab Flash: Patricia Field Lends a Hand to HSN

I'm not surprised Sex and the City costume designer Patricia Field is already on to her next endeavor. But it's official: her wardrobe for the hit movie was a success. Jonesing for a piece of the House of Field? Tune in to HSN. The flame-haired stylist has partnered with the shopping network on an exclusive brand, Destination Style New York. On September 23 it will launch on TV and on hsn.com.

The collection, designed by Field and longtime House of Field designer David Dalrymple, will consist of 50 pieces ranging from sportswear and denim to dresses and accessories. Will it have some SATC flavor? You betcha. According to Mindy Grossman, HSN's chief executive officer, "This collection is very accessible, with something for everyone. We have the iconic flower dress from the beginning scene in the Sex and the City movie, but we are also selling the flower as a pin, so customers can have just a piece of what we are offering."

This T-shirt dress printed with Field's iconic Martine illustrations is an example of the bold statement Pat Field will make on HSN. Oh and the best part? The collection will retail from $39 to $199. Not too bad for a piece of the Field pie.

Like the majority of the female population, we're getting more and more excited about the imminent unveiling of Sex and the City: The Movie, especially with rumors about that it may premiere at Cannes next month.

We'll finally see if Carrie and Big actually tie the knot, but more importantly, we'll be lusting after a myriad of fabulous fashion pieces. In preparation, I've started researching the movie wardrobe and found the most perfect diamond gold hoops that Carrie paired with a typically glamorous sequined dress.

Lucky for us, she and I had a convo at the Mercedes-Benz Star Lounge about her approach to styling, the Sex and the City movie, Cashmere Mafia and where she does the shopping for all the clothes we know and love. I got an exclusive interview with her at Fashion Week; she spoke with ease and gave Fab many minutes of her time. Thanks Patricia! On to the goods . . .

It looks like the wardrobe for the Sex and the City movie is more dramatic versus the show? Can you explain how you approached the movie wardrobe?

I approached the movie with the idea that five years has passed since we last saw these girls in action. And we know these girls quite well so you have to come through with a truthful concept. You can’t just be, “Oh, let’s do this and let’s do that” because our audience knows these girls very well and you’re not going to put something out there that they’re not going to believe. Five years have passed, what has happened to these women in five years? There are some changes but it’s not a new person.

The couple outfits I've seen from the Sex and the City movie, since the flower power outfit, have been average. To my delight, this too cool for school look popped up. Firstly, Carrie always had a hot little bod, and I loved it when she showed it off. Well, she's still got it. Those gray thigh high stockings and patent lace-up booties only work on the gams of Ms. Carrie Bradshaw. The entire muted color story is a moody dream, and that long boyfriend cardi worn with gray knuckle gloves is menswear-inspired at its best. Oh and that Prada ombre clutch? Way cool.Are you as mad about this too cool for school look as I am?

Just when you thought it was goodbye "Sex and the City" forever, we hear the news of a movie in the works. Then, we learn about a new show, based in New York, around four women, who are also to be styled by SATC wardrobe guru Patricia Field, "Cashmere Mafia." I instantly thought: someone is trying to reinvent SATC, and I'm not so sure how I feel about that. I want to embrace the possibility but I am also a slave to SATC and believe it can never be duplicated. Emulated, yes. That is what I see here.Now that both productions are in the works, we have the inside peek into the SATC wardrobe and the Cashmere Mafia costumes. Already, I see fabulousness - that would be the brilliance of Pat Field - but I also see similarities. It's obvious Lucy is supposed to be the quirky one (Carrie), which doesn't always fly, Bonnie Somerville is the powerful blonde (Samantha), and then you have the elegant brunette and token redhead. Am I being critical, or is "Cashmere Mafia" the new Fab foursome?Source

Wahoo! I'll admit I'm a bit apprehensive about the "Sex and the City" movie. Don't get me wrong - I can recite scenes and list Carrie outfits with the best of them - I'm just very curious with how the movie is going to turn out. I think it will either be just fabulous or a forced stinker...and of course I'm rooting for the former! What we have here is a sneak peek at a Carrie/Big moment from the movie. If we get more teasers like this, it will make for fantastic Fall fun. But down to business, Carrie's green getup! In classic Carrie fashion, the look is eclectic, ladylike, but with a good dose of edge. I adore the contrasting green floral prints, and that coat is to die for, though the studded belt and Dior Mad Max heels are a bit much, if you ask me. However, that cheeky Eiffel Tower purse is quintessential Carrie (and Patricia Field) so bring us some more!You know my take on this, what's yours?!

Celebrity stylist but not stylist-to-celebrities Patricia Field has been keeping busy with a couple new projects. The first? Creating the wardrobes of Lucy Liu and company for the upcoming show Cashmere Mafia.

And the second? She's been working with the in-house design team at ASOS. Together, they produced a limited-edition capsule collection which just debuted, rife with metallic dresses, frilly vests, wide leg jeans, and foiled jumpsuits. From the lady who has that lovable flair for the quirky and offbeat, would you expect anything less?

Last week we gave you the inside scoop on the wardrobe of one of the most highly anticipated new shoes, I mean shows, well this show will probably contain some amazing shoes, anyway, Cashmere Mafia. For us fashion devotees, this new show, about four high-powered women in NYC, gets my blood churning simply because of the supposed amazing wardrobe to be created by Patricia Field. The show that is being dubbed the next Sex and the City shows some promise. From this preview, you can tell the show has substance, following the lives of four successful business women, style, take a look at Lucy's tailored suiting, and sass, get a load of the redhead (played by Miranda Otto)! Though the four women sitting around the resto table taking turns dishing is a bit too SATC close for comfort, I won't hold that against them. Patricia Field's New Fab Foursome!

Pop and Buzz are at the ABC TCAs and found out some juicy news! We're all looking forward to the much talked about Sex and the City movie partly because we love the work of the one, the only, costume designer: Patricia Field. Well, she is on board to dress the hottest new foursome in ABC's new show, Cashmere Mafia. Here's what Lucy Liu had to say about the amount of effort that goes into their wardrobes:

Patricia Field is somebody that we were lucky enough to have come onto our show. She has an incredible talent for putting together pieces and making them look like art. She never repeats an outfit, as she said in my fitting, and she also puts together things that you would never imagine. I mean, she could put, you know, something from the 80s, put a modern belt on it, and put some shoes, with a purse form the 70s and the look looks great. And she also goes with what she thinks the actors are like and what she's seen of our work and how we move and how we -- you know, how we like to illuminate the screen. And so she sort of puts that in conjunction with what we are working on to create a new look. And because she also did "Sex and the City," which I know that a lot of people will be comparing the two shows, she knows what not to repeat. If anything, she's going to want to start something completely new because that's who she is. She doesn't even like to repeat her own work. So that's the one thing we are graced with in terms of fashion, is her. I think we can just kind of show up and have her throw anything she wants on us.

Sounds like Lucy knows she will be compared to Carrie Bradshaw but she'll most likely be setting her own trends thanks to Patricia's amazing skills. And, we can look forward to Pat delivering beyond the creativity we all grew to love on SATC! Bring it!

Patricia Field's Special Oscar Payless Shoes

So the brilliant costume designer Patricia Field didn't win the Oscar for best costume design for The Devil Wears Prada. But she will always be a winner to me - after all, she was the genius behind the Sex and the City wardrobe. Did you know she has also been styling the Payless ads? For Sunday's red carpet, she designed a special pair of Payless shoes that will be sold in stores for Holiday 2007. They will be a part of the "Red Carpet Collection by Patricia Field" so expect fun, party shoes just in time for the holidays! Here she is on on the red carpet in her creation and her signature crimson red hair.
