It's in its fourth series and if you indulged in the over-the-top Stylista last night and need a series dose of thinking television, check out tonight's episode where Stella McCartney and artist Ed Ruscha talk art and fashion, fashion and art. Here's a clip where the two are discussing how competitive both their industries are. Stella explains how one must have "survival instincts" in fashion, and really, in both industries, it's all about "selling, selling, selling." Intrigued? Watch tonight on the Sundance channel at 10 p.m.

Fantastical Spring Footwear

Shoes have reached an extreme — I love it. You might be wondering, "I thought you were a flat girl, though, Fab." I am, I am. But I also escape reality via fantastical footwear. I have nowhere to wear these gutsy concoctions, or the means to buy them, but if I did, I would indulge (and suffer). Platforms and unstable heels caused a couple crashes down the catwalks, though, so a flat backlash might be on the horizon. In the meantime, feast your eyes on Pilati's cold caged sandal for YSL and more fantasies . . .

Sneak Peek! Stella McCartney For LeSportsac Fall '08

It seems like only yesterday the announcement came that Stella McCartney would design for LeSportsac. A year or so later, the collaboration is still going strong. LeSportsac just released the Fall collection that will appeal to mommies, hikers, and fashionistas alike. The color palette is based on earth tones — bark, black, and plum — and the silhouettes are functional and minimal.

The 11-piece line, retailing from $85 to $450, includes handbags, luggage, canteen bags, and backpacks. Stella has paid a lot of attention to detail by incorporating compartments for cosmetics, notepads, water bottles, phones, etc. Deer lovers will be happy to know that each bag is accompanied by a gold deer charm. Also, all the fabrics are made from 100 percent recycled materials. Mother nature would be proud.

I wonder what lovely designs Vivienne, famous for her avant garde aesthetic, and Stella, known for using animal-free materials, will come up with. All they need is the approval from the Ministry of Defence, so let's cross our fingers.

With the singer's upcoming Sticky and Sweet tour, launching Aug. 23, the costume designer is hard at work putting together a fashion masterpiece. Similar to her previous concerts, Madonna's costumes will range across four different influences: gangsta pimp, art deco, gypsy, and futuristic.

Don't expect age to affect her racy fashion statement. “She always wants to push the envelope. There are no vanity considerations based on her age; she looks good in everything,” said Phillips.

Topping the list of collaborating designers are Givenchy's Riccardo Tisci, who designed the singer's signature dominatrix costumes; Tom Ford, who provided custom suits for the band; custom-made shoes by Miu Miu and Stella McCartney; sunglasses from Moschino, and other outfits and accessories from Roberto Cavalli, Jeremy Scott, and Yves Saint Laurent.

Maggie Gyllenhaal has a dark side. Her premiere looks for the action flick The Dark Knight not only complimented her, but they complimented the film. Maggie usually chooses dresses of the darker persuasion for her red carpet appearances — one of my favorites being her Proenza Schouler 2007 Oscar gown — but they work so well with her fantastic skin and retro look. Seeing runway photos is not nearly as enticing as seeing the clothes live, and Nordstrom's Designer Preview 2008 reiterated that fact. For example, Bill Blass's gray/black tulle-bodice strapless dress — you know, the one Anne Hathaway wore at the Get Smart premiere — literally came to life before my eyes on the catwalk. While I admired it on Anne, I fell madly in love with it that night because I saw the way the bottom half of the dress danced as the model pranced down the runway. Donna Karan, Stella McCartney, Derek Lam, Missoni, Valentino, Michael Kors, Peter Som, Burberry Prorsum, Vera Wang, and Versace also each showed about a dozen Fall looks.

The night was centered around the runway, but the pre- and postparty was also a blast. Clothes hanging on tall racks gave guests, including myself, the chance to get up close and personal with their catwalk faves, while champagne and hors d'oeuvres kept us satiated. Oh, and I got to meet the ultimate San Francisco socialite, Joy Bianchi!

When the Fall shows were unfolding — when Winter chills were every which where — I showed you a representative look from the Prada runway. And I can say that look was representative of the Fall collection, as it was demure with dramatic, keen lace detailing. As to whether you liked it or not, that was nearly a tie.

But I bet you'll like this racey, lacey look from the Balmain runway. Lace, a traditional yet complex fabric, has been given a serious reevaluation; this is not your grandma's lace. This is 2008 lace — modern, mixed, and multifaceted.

Just because fashion designers don't play competitive sports doesn't mean they can't take part in the 2008 Olympics. Au contraire, mon frère. Hong Kong-based retailer Lane Crawford has enlisted the help of 12 of the world's most famous names — Ricardo Tisci, Burberry (left), Phillip Lim, and Stella McCartney, to name a few — for "The Collective: Synergy in Fashion." The looks will be showcased at several events throughout the Olympic season in Beijing this Summer. After August, all of the one-of-a-kind garments will be auctioned, with 100 percent of proceeds benefiting UNICEF's Driving Dreams project. I've never been the athletic type, but this is dope.

Liv Tyler opted to show off her stems in the designer's shorter version at the premiere of The Incredible Hulk. Pairing it with sky-high platform sandals and dangly gold earrings was a good call. On the other hand, Stella stayed elegant in the same dress, but longer, with matching cobalt-blue pumps last month at the Costume Institute Gala. 2009 Resort: Stella McCartney

"I'm half New Yorker and I'm celebrating that side," said Stella McCartney at her garden party Resort presentation held in NYC. The air was filled with roses and jubilation as celebs and fans joined together on a cozy field of green at the Jefferson Market Garden to view the designer's American-inspired designs. Since her decision to forgo the usual, it was to no one's surprise that a runway was absent. Instead, models were found frolicking on the grass with lollipops in hand donning Stella's casually luxurious blazers, cropped pants, pleated shorts, and loose dresses.
The designs were nothing short of delightful, wearable goods with classic and flattering cuts.

The warm color palette of tans, dusty pinks, reds, and blues were cut into beautiful loose silhouettes and fine detailing. One of my favorites looks was a fluid jacket paired with a barely-there silk skirt, which was a perfect mix of retro and modern. All in all, the collection was a bevy of bohemian elements and classic styling. The unstructured blazers were quintessential Stella and the cropped pants were a definite Summer must-have item.

Some trends never die. I pooh poohed rosettes over a year ago, however, I'm starting to think it was just Angela from Project Runway's fault that I tired of them early (those darn rosettes junkies ruin it for everyone). Or maybe it's just that Spring's floral trend has completely enveloped me and I love anything bloom related. If you're feeling the bloom love as much as I you may want to try 3D buds. Anne Hathaway dazzled in Marchesa ones at the Oscars as did Renee Zellweger, staring us down in them. OK, so it works on the red carpet, but does the 3D effect work for the everyday? The saga continues.

Our buddies at ELLE will be holding a virtual charity auction on Monday, April 14 to help fight global warming. On auction will be one-of-a-kind Sigg water bottles designed, by 15 top fashion designers including Phillip Lim, Sienna Miller, Zac Posen, and Stella McCartney.

These eco-conscious bottles are a great alternative to using disposable plastic water bottles and what better way to show your support in fighting global warming? My favorite is Peter Som's (pictured left). Set your timers!

If we're going to talk about fashion metamorphoses, we can't overlook Chloé. That would be like talking about chocolate and not mentioning Godiva. Like many fashion houses, Chloé has changed hands several times, but what makes it stand out is its desirable roster (Karl Lagerfeld in the late '60s, Stella McCartney in late '90s, and Phoebe Philo from 2001-2006). Many fashion insiders, including myself, were shocked by the recent announcement that creative director Paulo Melim Andersson was being replaced by former assistant director to Valentino, Hannah MacGibbon. The reason behind the split is unknown, though some attribute it to a difference of opinion over where the brand should be headed.
